In the wastewater treatment process, solid and foamed substances must be skimmed off the surface. On an industrial scale, this is achieved using skimmer troughs: Pivoting drains that capture matter floating on the surface from the circulating wastewater. Skimmer troughs must be able to pivot so that after filling up, they can discharge their contents at the center of clarifier.

The most difficult aspect of this application is to select a very smoothly operating swivel joint, so that the pivot drive can be designed to operate cost-efficiently at low force. Our customer uses the EZM standard joint with two ball races made from corrosion-resistant 1.4571 stainless steel for this application.
